Things you need to know when purchasing a new computer

When building a new computer, there are many things you need to consider before making your decision. The reason is that you have a limited budget to spend. Therefore, carefully choosing hardware will help you to save money, but still having a powerful computer.

In this post, I’m going to tell you a few things you need to know when purchasing new hardware for your computer. If you have a plan to build a new computer or buy an all-in-one computer, this is a right guide for you. However, if you don’t have any limitation on the budget, then don’t need to care much about these factors.

1. The latest processor vs. the older one

The factor is that you don’t really need to select the most recent generation of processor. Instead, choose the one that older a bit and will definitely help you to save up to a few hundred of dollars.

For example, the latest version of Intel processor at this moment is 7th Kaby Lake. When selecting this line, you have to spend around $500 for the chip only. However, if you choose 4th Haswell, that will be cheaper and help you to save money. It’s very easy to find 4th Haswell processors for around $250 to $300.

2. How many RAM would be enough?

If you use this computer for Windows operating system, I would recommend using at least 4GB of memory to help it runs smoothly. However, if you have a limited budget, 2GB or 3GB would be enough. But honestly, if you want your computer has a capable of running large apps or open several browser tabs, then 4GB or even 8GB of RAM is an ideal condition.

3. Power supply unit

Power supply unit, or also known as PSU is the last thing you need to focus. Usually, I often choose a 500-watt PSU, and it will be right to power for all components of the computer. However, you need to recalculate the power supply value when you add more hardware, such as more solid-state drive, or even graphics card. Therefore, if you have any plan to add more components in the future, make sure you select the right PSU that has a capable of handling that hardware.
